This is a story about In the Life Ministries, the only LGBT church in the Bronx, where despite withering challenges, every Sunday people come together to give thanks. Thanks for having enough to eat, thanks for another week of being drug free, thanks for making rent this month. Thanks just for being alive.
The community is made up of people who have seen the bottom, who have lived there. Members of the congregation have been abused, neglected and shut out — half suffer from mental illness or addiction, a quarter were formerly homeless and a fifth are HIV positive. But this is not a sob story; it's a story of grace and redemption.
